Bells Across America to Ring
Description
Bells Across America to Ring September 17
On Thursday, September 17, 2020, bells will ring all across America, at 3:00 CST. This event is to celebrate the Constitution on September 17, 1787. For the first time ever, Rockport will be participating in this event with the kind cooperation of St. Peter's Episcopal Church located at 555 Enterprise Boulevard next door to the Post Office. At 2:45, participants will gather in front of the church to hear a brief history about the celebration of Constitution week. At 3:00, the church bell will ring for a solid minute so that it can be heard throughout the surrounding area, and Father Jim Friedel will conclude with a short prayer for our nation. Unfortunately, this year the event will be limited to 10 official participants in order to comply with Governor Abbott's meeting rule due to the pandemic. Social distancing will be observed, and masks will be worn out of respect for one another as citizens. If you are in the area, you will know that a celebration is going on all across America with each time zone adjusting their time so that it will be happening simultaneously. Be sure to listen if possible.
