SUMMARY:Mental Health First Aid Adult
DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, May the 20th\, Coastal Plains Community Center will be providing Adult Mental Health First Aid for the community. Sierra Zavala\, Community Relations Coordinator and Melissa Campos\, Rights Officer\, will be instructing this course and will be holding it at the Coastal Plains Community Center in Portland Texas. \n\nMental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it does build mental health literacy\, helping the public identify\, understand\, and respond to signs of mental illness.\n\nWe want to make Mental Health First Aid training as widespread as CPR training. In the Mental Health First Aid course\, you will learn the risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns\, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations\, and where to turn for help. The goal is to help support an individual until appropriate professional help arrives.\n\nTopics covered include depression and mood disorders\, anxiety disorders\, trauma\, psychosis and substance use disorders.\n\nThis training is of no cost to you. Training will begin from 8:00 am to 5:00 p.m. and will be located in the conference room of the Coastal Plains Community Center. Address: 200 Marriott Drive\, Portland Texas\, 78374. You must be present for the entire course to be certified.\n\nDeadline to register will be May 16th. Seats are limited. \n\nLunch will be provided* \n\nTo register go to http://www.mhm.org/calendar-weekly/workshop-conference/1874-mental-health-first-aid-workshop-adults-portland\n\nFor more information: contact Sierra Zavala or Melissa Campos: szavala@coastalplainsctr.org : mcampos@coastalplainsctr.org\n\nOr call 361-777-3991.\n\nTo learn more about Mental Health First Aid visit: https://www.mentalhealthfirstaid.org
